FAQ
Questions, answered
If you don't see your question here, reach out, I'm happy to help.
How do I know if we're a good fit?
A free consultation helps us talk about what you want support with, how I work, and whether my approach feels right for you. If another provider would be a better fit, I'll say so.
What is the first session like?
We'll talk about what has been bringing you in, any important background, and what you'd like to be different. We'll also start identifying goals and the kinds of tools or approaches that may be most helpful. There's no need to have it all figured out beforehand.
How much does it cost?
The initial consultation is free. Individual 60-minute sessions are $175. A limited number of sliding-scale spots are available, just ask during your consultation.
Are sessions covered by insurance?
Many extended health plans reimburse services provided by a Registered Social Worker. Coverage varies by plan, so it's best to confirm whether your benefits include counselling or psychotherapy provided by an MSW, RSW. You'll receive a receipt to submit for reimbursement, and direct billing is available for some plans.
Are sessions virtual or in person?
Sessions are virtual (secure video or phone) and available to clients across Ontario. This makes it easier to fit therapy around work, family, and life in and beyond Ottawa.
How often would we meet?
Most clients begin weekly to build momentum, then move to every other week as things progress. We'll find a rhythm that fits your needs and goals.
What approaches do you use?
I draw on evidence-based approaches including CBT, DBT, and ACT, alongside trauma-informed, strengths-based, and client-centred practice. We'll use what fits you, rather than fitting you to a fixed model.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes. What you share is private and protected under Ontario's health-privacy law (PHIPA), with a few legal limits I'll explain clearly at the start, such as risk of serious harm. You can read more on the Privacy Policy page.
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. The first missed appointment is always forgiven; after that, late cancellations and missed sessions are charged the full session fee.
Are you accepting new clients?
I'm now booking new clients from July 31, 2026. You're welcome to reach out before then to ask questions or arrange a consultation.
What if I'm in crisis?
This practice does not provide crisis or emergency services. If you're in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. In Ottawa, you can also reach the Ottawa Distress Centre at 613-238-3311.
